The term ‘brain waves’ is used to describe the patterns of transmission of electrical signals between neurons in the brain. These patters are important to understand not only for the physiological functions they are critical for, but also because consciously changing one’s brainwaves is a critical tool in spiritual reception and perception, and psychic development.
There are five different classifications of brainwaves. Each encompasses a specific frequency range necessary for specific cognitive function.
Gamma Waves (25 Hz – 100 Hz)
This is the frequency your brain operates on when you are at the height of your cognitive capacity. Information and memory processing take place during this state.
Beta Waves (12 Hz – 40 Hz)
This is the frequency your brain operates at during normal waking consciousness. While in this state, general thought and logical process are relatively easy.
Alpha Waves (8 Hz – 12 Hz)
This is the frequency range your brain operates on when you are calm and relaxed. People who meditate on a regular basis have been shown to produce more alpha waves than others. Alpha waves are also associated with stress reduction and increased memory recall.
Theta Waves (4 HZ to 8 Hz)
This is the frequency range your brain operates on during deep relaxation, very light sleep, meditation, and light hypnosis. Studies have shown that people in Theta states are more susceptible to suggestion, including affirmations, making the Theta state exceptionally powerful for reprogramming positive thought and behavioral patterns in place of negative ones.
Delta Waves (0.2 Hz – 4 Hz)
This is the frequency the brain operates on during deep, restorative sleep. During Delta state, your brain is essentially switched off, and only the most basic processes of restoration and healing are permitted. No dreaming takes place during this time.
